Verlie made the last entry in her diary in January 1963. She passed away 3 years later on April 1, 1966. She died suddenly at home of an apparent heart attack. Jesse and Ennis found her in her living room after not being able to get her on the phone. After she passed away, the farm at the end of Broadway was sold to Jesse’s brother-in-law, Jack Fain. The farmhouse and buildings were torn down and a trailer park was built and is there today. 

There were no journals in 1964.
