3. Friday. A very nice day. Mr. Wells paid his bet- 1 qt. on preacher.
4. Saturday. Rained some. Rev. Scott Swinehart left Athens this morning for good.

12. Wednesday. A very nice day. Got me a new permanent today.

18. Saturday. Rained nearly all day at McComas.
19. Sunday. Rained all night, turning to sleet and did so all day – 2 or more inches of sleet & ice. Went to SS & church. Mr. Rogers preached. Took Dad to build fire and Mother & I went up & visited Uncle Doc awhile.
20. Monday. First day of spring. Ice all over everything. Temp 25. Road slick. Started in car to take dad to work and couldn’t make Caldwell Hill. The starter wouldn’t work. Clownie Hite could not come to put new battery in so I had to push it back in home.
21. Tuesday. Still slick & bad. Went to McComas.
22. Wednesday. Still ice & chilly.
23. Rained all day. Snowed a little.
24. Friday. Still ice in places. Went to choir practice.
25. Saturday. A beautiful day. Dr. Lilly gone to Charleston on business & Mrs. Lilly.
26. Sunday. Went to SS & church. Nice crowd present. A fine day. We went to see Aunt Rose in afternoon. Hot and nice. After supper we went up to see Brown Scott awhile and home.
27. Monday. A very nice day. Not so warm. Rained some today.
28. Snowed & sleeted a little and then in afternoon it really rained. High winds. Temp 32.
29. Rained today some. Wind high. Colder a lot by night. We are expecting a new calf any time now.
30. Temp 27. Clear & sun out. Maybe a nice day. Colder a lot tonight.
31. Spitting snow a while this morning. Temp 26 today. Went to choir practice. Came home and we had a new heifer calf down at the cabin at the spring. It is a beauty.
April
1. Saturday. April Fool’s Day. It is real nice this morning. Temp 30 -ice.
2. Sunday. A fine morning. We went to SS & church. Judge Easley from Bluefield came over and preached for us. A large crowd present. Stayed home today. Brought calf up from cabin. Colder & raining at 4:00 turning to snow at 7:00. Helen Barton & Homer Ball came down at 8:00.
3. Monday. Ground nearly white with snow and still snowing at 6:00 this morning. Temp 26. Cleared up in afternoon a lot. No snow on ground. We went out to Quincy’s awhile after supper.
4. Tuesday. Temp 24. Began snowing about 9:30 and on all day big squalls. By time we left McComas, there was plenty of snow on the ground. CW Grim died this morning at 3:30. By night - temp 20 and still snowing.
5. Wednesday. Temp, at 6:30 this morning, 15 above and the biggest snow so far all winter. Jenning’s Drug store thermometer said 13 at 8:00. Snowing some all day. Roads slick- a real winter day. Afraid fruit trees are killed- we know that peaches, cherries & plums are. Still snowing late tonight.
6. Thursday. Cleared up today. Most of snow left- only where it was drifted. CW Grim was buried today. Warmer a lot.
7. Friday. Temp 32 this morning. Clear but cloudy- by noon, may rain. Went to choir practice at 7:00. Mrs. Edna Johnson got a message that Trevor Had dropped dead in camp in Illinois. Been in camp 4 weeks. I went up there a while.
8. Saturday. Rained some today. We went to Princeton after supper- Sis & I.
9. Sunday. Easter- A nice warm day. Went to SS & church. Rev. AB Moore preached for us. Stayed home in the afternoon. After supper we went up to Mrs. Johnson’s awhile. A message came that the body had left camp at 4:00 PM- would arrive in Bluefield at 8:45 Monday night.
10. Monday. Rained during the night. Very nice this morning. Was up to Edna Johnson’s until after they brought Trevor in. Got home at 1:30.
11. Tuesday. Boy, what a rain & wind storm - got completely dark about 1:30. Tornados in several states- 46 dead. Went up to Johnson’s a few minutes after supper.
12. Wednesday. Rained off & on all day. Went to Trevor Johnson’s funeral at 2:00 in Methodist church, a large crowd there and so many nice flowers. Colder a lot at bedtime. Temp 34.
13. Thursday. Temp 28 this morn. Plenty of ice.
14. Friday. Cool yet today. Went to choir practice at 7:00. 4 there.
15. Saturday. A very nice day. Rained some late in afternoon. Came by Princeton from McComas. Got Dad’s grass seed in Matoaka.
16. Sunday. A very nice morning. Went to SS & church. Preacher Wilson from Camp Creek failed to come so Dr. John McGraw preached for us. Dad & I went to Estil Oxley’s after supper to get him to sow our oats and he said they had bought WL Williams farm & dairy so he could not do it. Said Marion Oxley said maybe he could do it. Went out to Quincy’s awhile. Colder a lot at bedtime.
17. Monday. Rained during the night Temp 26 this morning. Quincy’s came out and stayed til 10:00. Had a lot of fun.
18. Tuesday. Cold this morning. 31 Temp. Rained some today.
19. Wednesday. Marion Oxley plowing our field today. Cloudy but didn’t rain any. Washed most of back porch. After supper Mr. Wells came out for some sour cherry trees- got several.
20. Thursday. Cloudy rained a little late in the afternoon. Went to bed at 6:30- aching & hurting all day.
21. Friday. Didn’t sleep much during the night. Temp 100 4/5 at 9:30. Dr. Lilly gone all morning. Went to choir practice and home.
22. Saturday. Drilled our oats today & finished up. $32.00 to plow & sow 3 acres. Went to Princeton after supper awhile.
23. Sunday. A fine day. Wind chilly tho. Went to SS & church. Rev. Moore preached. Stayed home in afternoon. Sis came out and we visited Barton’s awhile. Hugh Pickett preached at7:30 and had a church meeting afterwards. Raining as I went home.
24. Monday. Rained most of the day. April Flowers. Cleaned back yard and mowed lawn tonight.
25. Tuesday. A fine day. Wind high & cool. Planted onions. After supper. RN Vermillion very sick. DC Pettrey took over as clerk in Scott’s store today. Saw Dean also in store at 6:00.
26. Wednesday. Clear & cool this morning.
27. Thursday. Cloudy, cold & raining all day and on until bedtime. Quincy’s came out after supper awhile.
28. Friday. A fine day. 32. Ice. A big frost. Went to choir practice.
29. Sat. A fine morning. Temp 32. Ice & a big frost. Dr. Lilly & family went today to visit Dick at Emory VA.
30. Sunday. A fine day. Went to SS & church. Stayed home all afternoon till after supper and went out to Quincy’s awhile.
May
1. Monday. Hot today. Temp up in the 80’s. I went with Dr. Vermillion to see Aunt Rose after dinner. She is real sick.
2. Tuesday. Another fine day. I went with Aunt Alice, Uncle Hade, Mary Lee & “Shire” & Rubin to see Aunt Rose about 8:00. Got home at 11:00.
3. Wednesday. Still nice weather.
4. A fine day & went to McComas. Ralph Thompson died last night. Heart attack at Ieager, WV.
5. Very nice day. Went with Dr. V- down to see Aunt Rose this morning. She is so sick. Went to choir practice – only 3 of us there. Raining this evening and all night. Went up to Davy Thompson’s awhile.
6. Saturday, Cloudy all day. No rain tho. I went down to stay with Aunt Rose tonight. QD took me down to schoolhouse and Bill met me there. Went to raining about 8:00 and all night.
7. Up at Aunt Rose’s at 5:45 and it is just pouring the snow. Hills covered around them. A big snow in Athens so they say. I came home at 5:00. QD came for me at the schoolhouse. Dee Burch & wife was up for dinner and left at 5:00. I hit the hay at 7:30. Tired and sleepy.
8. Monday. Temp 34. Frost this morning. Sam Crawford was found dead in bed this morning. A nice day. So warm. I took Daddy & Quinzetta and we went down to see Aunt Rose awhile. Willie & Fred Ball came while we were there.
9. A fine day. Primary Election. I took my car to McComas. Dr.’s is in garage at Bluefield to have fender fixed. Stopped at hot house for tomatoes and pepper plants. Voted as I came home.
10. Wednesday. Another fine day. Grover came to Quincy’s and stayed all night and Quincy is taking him down to Aunt Rose’s tomorrow.
11. Thursday. A fine day. Hot. Dug our potatoes and they were all nearly rotten. Had sold them at Sagamore.
12. Friday. Another dandy day. Looked like rain but didn’t. We went to college gym for crowning of the Queen. Louise Gentry was queen & Carly Terry was maid of honor. Barton’s moved out of my house to Princeton today & tomorrow.
13. Saturday. A fine day. Dr. Lilly leaves at 1:45 for Huntington to State Dental Meeting. Bill Shepherd came for me at 5:15 to go help look after Aunt Rose over Sunday.
14. Sunday. Mother’s Day. Aunt Rose is very sick. Got home at 8:10 tonight. Grover left tonight.
15. Monday. A fine day. Cleaned windows, mopped, & waxed Dr. Vermillion’s office. Tired too, believe me. Aunt Lori died at 12:20 this morning. We went up to Julia’s awhile after supper.
16. Tuesday. Washed Pictures and mopped today. A fine day. Rained a little. Lots of wind. Mowed my yard up on the hill.
17. Wednesday. A very nice day. Went to Aunt Lori’s funeral & burial at Elgood. Hattie Scott went with us. A large crowd there. 5 preachers there. Aunt Rose is worse. Worked garden after supper and went up and gathered up trash at my house.
18. Thursday. Cloudy. Rained a little about 5:30. Dr. Lilly back and going to McComas today.
19. Friday. A hot day. Went to Princeton at noon for paint & to get paper man to hang paper in my house.
20. Saturday. A fine day. Went to McComas. Got home at 6:00. Went over to see Lloyd Oxley to fix my windows. He was not home. Rained about dark.
21. Sunday. A fine morning. Went to SS & to college to High school Commencement by Rev. Carr from Princeton. Ate dinner and went to Aunt Bessie’s. Rained a real storm here. We were not in any of it. Stopped to see Lloyd Oxley to fix windows Tuesday evening.
22. Monday. A very nice day. Scott boys fixed my roof, painted it today, only part – run out of paint. Went to 3:00 to Hinton to see Uncle Joe. He is in hospital- real sick. Went to graduation of Athens High School. Mary Ann graduated. Mother’s blood pressure 216 tonight.
23. Tuesday. A fine day. Lloyd came and done my windows.
24. Wednesday. A very nice day. Dad & I jacked up and fixed underpinning in house at noon. Helped a lot. A real storm about 5:30. Hailed. Worked some up at my house.
25. Thursday. Went to McComas. Rained some- a washout at Princeton store and Crane Creek. Worked again at house.
26. Friday. A fine day. Worked- washed woodwork at house.
27. Saturday. A hot morning. Rained a hard rain at noon and in this rain, Downey Martin ran into the side the Army truck in front of Roy Beckett’s filling station. Dr. V sent him to hospital. He has a broken jaw, cuts and several teeth broke out and gone. We went to Princeton after supper and stopped at Quincy’s awhile.
28. Sunday. Went to SS & down to Aunt Rose’s awhile. I got home at 2:30. Church meeting at 7 to put price on parsonage- $6000.00 Went up to Uncle Doc’s awhile after supper.
29. Monday. A fine day. Mowed cemetery at Tip’s and took flowers to upper cemetery on Uncle Dee’s plot.
30. Tuesday. Another fine day. Hot tho. At 7:00, Dad & I took flowers to Tip’s Cemetery. Went up to cemetery about dark to get baskets.
31. Wednesday. A hot day. Dr. Lilly did not come to office in afternoon. H.A. came over for the afternoon. Ma & I went with Dr. Vermillion to Hinton. We visited Uncle Joe till train time. Dr. Vermillion met Mrs. Vermillion & Bill. Rained a little.
June
1. Thursday. A hot day.
2. Friday. A fine morning. We went to Concord Commencement. Graduation is on today. Fixed screen doors up at house tonight.
3. Saturday. Went to McComas. Showered some over there. Worked up at house again tonight.
4. Sunday. Went to SS & church. Rev. Moore preached. Dr. Lilly’s & Mrs. Caldwell came down in afternoon. Caught me up on the hill painting. Cold this evening. Went down to Ed Wirtz. He lives in Lura Burch’s house now. Bought it last week. Oliver Scott got his farm.
5. Monday. Temp 56. Warmed up a lot. Rome fell into the Allies hands last night.
6. Tuesday. The big invasion started at 3:12 this morning in France. Radios on fire bringing the great news. Raining this morning.
7. Wednesday. Temp 46. Cold. Had a note from Doc saying Uncle Joe slipped and fell Monday night -in hospital. A big bump on his head. No bones broken.
8. Thursday. Temp 39. Frost on housetops. Dr. Lilly sick. Called for me to bring Dr. V. and come down. I went to McComas by myself for the day. Ruben Vaught came up on way down to Aunt Rose’s. Came over town and up to Doc’s to get Ruben and up to visit Mrs. Eskew awhile.
9. Chilly yet this morning. Went to Princeton after supper and on to carnival awhile. Boy, big crowd there.
10. A fine day. Went to SS and on to Hinton to see Uncle Joe. Found him very sick. This was 10 years for Dad to go to Sunday School without missing a Sunday. Dad and I went down to see Aunt Rose at 5:00. Elbert Alvis ruined a fender for me over on the curve above Thornton Road. Got home at 9:00.
11. Monday. A hot day. Temp 88 at 5:30 on our porch. Worked out garden after sun went down.
12. Hot and dry. Doc called at 5:30 saying Uncle Joe was so much worse. Called Doc at 8:30 tonight. Say he is still very sick.

14. Thursday. Hot today. Dr. Meador called at 3:00 PM saying Uncle Joe died at 2:10.
15. A hot day. We went down to Hinton after supper. Well’s went along with us. Qunicys also drove down.
16. Saturday. A hot day. Went to Hinton at 10:30 to Uncle Joe’s funeral at 2:00. Got back to cemetery about 3:40. Tired out when night came.

19. Monday. 70 at 6:30 this morning. Rained around close home here. Cooler at bedtime.
20. Tuesday. Temp 39 this morning. Cloudy & cold all day.
21. Wednesday. Warmed up some during day. Dry no rain.
22. Thursday. Hot today. A tornado came to Athens at 9:00 and over at 9:30. And what a wreck. Hail ruined things from Mick or Mack’s on down this town. We had some hail at our house.
23. Friday. Boy, everything is blown up by the roots. We lost 2 apple trees, half of a wild cherry tree and garden blown down. Up on hill, 2 window glass out of brown house and in my lot, 4 apple trees blown down. Streets blocked down at Bibbee’s till up near noon. Meador Bird Ridge is completely ruined- gardens, wheat and everything. 30 windows blown out of college. Dr. Lilly went to see Henry about noon. Came over town after supper to show Mother the wreck – trees and etc.
24. Saturday. A storm hit the northern part of the state. Tornado and killed 109. Wrecked so many towns. Went to Hinton and got Mother’s chest & cupboard.
25. A very nice day. No news much. Went to SS & church. Harold Wirtz was killed in the invasion June 6, 1944- Message came at 10:00 today from government. Quincy’s came out awhile after supper.
26. Monday. Very nice day. No news.
27. Tuesday. Hot. 90 today.

29. Thursday. Another storm but not so hard. Lightning worse I ever saw. Hit Glen Lyn bad so they say.
30. Friday. A very nice day. Mrs. Lina McClanahan died in hospital.
July
1. Saturday. A fine day. Went to McComas, took Dick by to go back to camp at Emory. He goes to hospital in or near Washington. Went by Mrs. Eskew’s awhile to see Mrs. McCallahan. Saw the Rev. Castello who is here to preach a trial sermon tomorrow.
2. Sunday. A fine day. Went to SS & church. Rev Castello preached for us. A large crowd present. Very nice I think. Ennis & Fern ate dinner with us. QD working overtime. We went to Mrs. McCallahan’s funeral at 2:30. Doc & Roy came up but we missed them. Quincy’s came out awhile after supper. Sprinkled a little. Cooler a lot by bedtime.
3. Monday. Cool this morning. We worked hard all day. Went to bed at 8:00.
4. Tuesday. A fine day. We went to see Aunt Rose at 10:00. Home at 5:30. She is not feeling so good.

10 Monday. Wrote policies all day and am taking my vacation. Lillian is working for me. Cut oats. MC Oxley did with reaper.
11. Tuesday. A nice day. Dad & I put top on shed part of barn.
12. Wednesday. Cut hay & shocked & stacked it.
13. Thursday. Raining some today. Went to Charles Martin’s funeral. Really rained while we were there. Peeled apples and canned them. 13 quarts.
14 Friday. Up early and Mother & I went to Bluefield at 7:15 to have car fender fixed. Was over there all day. Tired when we got home. Dad had picked blackberries. Enough for 7 qts. Canned them also.
15. A fine day. Came over town after supper awhile. Went to Princeton after supper awhile. Stopped at the Holy Roller church awhile.
16. Went to SS & church. We and Wells went to church to the Holy Roller’s meeting.
17. Dad & I went to Princeton for roofing paint and up to liquor store and courthouse and home.

21. Friday. Came back to help Dr. Lilly till noon. Went to Eugene Pennington’s wife’s funeral at Pettrey. Went to Mr. Howery’s sale. QD got washer. Neta an electric toaster & I got a small table.
22. Saturday. Worked in office all day. Bill Mastin came in today with wife and baby from overseas. Went to Princeton after supper and to Mercer Show - “The Sullivan Family”. Very good.
23. Sunday. Went to SS and home. Packed lunch and we went to Oakvale Homecoming. Sis went with us, Aunt Rose was there -feeling very good. Quincy’s came out awhile after supper. Also QD & Ennis. We went over to Howery’s bought a few articles - 2 blankets.
24. Monday. A hot day. Rained a little. We put our oats in barn today. A good breeze. Went out to Quincy’s and helped string beans. Got home about 11:15.
25. Tuesday. Hot as all get out today. Worked hard at McComas.
26. Wednesday. Hot last night and still today. No breeze.

19. A fine day. Cool. Painters in office today and boy what a mess. Came to office at 6:30. Cleaned floors till 10:30. Went to Princeton for Phyllis at 1:45 tonight.
20. Sunday. A very nice day. Lefty Oxley put first coat of paint on floors this afternoon. Worked from 12:00 noon until 3:30. Dad tired from cleaning.
21. Working hard all day alone. Dr. Vermillion out on 2 OBs & 3 town calls. Dr. WS Steele died last night. Came back at 7:00. Lefty painting second coat on floors.
22. Tuesday. Cool today. Rained a little. We went to Spanishburg to funeral of Dr. Will Steele at 2:30. A big crowd there. Worked up at Training School after supper helping Dad. Aunt Daisy Higginbotham died about dark tonight.
23. Wednesday. Very nice day. Cool. Got telegram from Dr. Lilly to meet them in Hinton at 8:05 tonight. Phyllis went with me. Got home at 10:00 - train late.
24. Thursday. A very nice day. Cool tho. Went to McComas today.
25. Cloudy & rained some. We have not moved furniture in room yet at office. Brought Mother to Dr. V. after supper. Whelped up and itching terribly. Didn’t sleep any last night.

Quincy’s came out with Ennis & Fern in afternoon. Dr. Vermillion left for Charleston Grand Chapter meeting. Went for a drive after supper. Ennis & Fern went with us.

11. A very nice day. Dr. Lilly went to Bluefield shopping. Mae Dobbins cleaned & waxed the office floors for me. Dr. Vermillion came in from Charleston at 4:15 this afternoon. Wallie Vest was killed in a truck wreck near his home at Matoaka last night.

20. Friday. Raining early this morning. I took dad to work and it poured all day without a let-up. Wind light & cold. I went out to Quincy’s awhile after supper.
21. Saturday. Raining this morning also. PT Lilly died last night in Princeton. Came over town after supper. Dad got a haircut.
22. Sunday. Went to SS & church. Went up to cemetery after dinner to burial of PT Lilly and out to see Neta awhile.
23. A fine day. Our cow is all okay. Apples did not hurt her. Went down to Quincy’s. Neta is better and on up to Mrs. Williams awhile and home.

7. Tuesday. A big day. Weather fine. Temp 20. President Election – Everybody voting. I worked in office all day.
8. Wed. A fine day. Everything went Democratic but 2 Justices & 2 constables in Jumping Branch. Roosevelt reelected - makes 4 terms as President.

18. Cloudy but cleared up but cold. Bill Shepherd stayed all night with us last night. Went to Princeton after supper awhile - just mother & I. Got my watch back from Kessinger’s.
19. Sunday. First snow today. Cloudy and raining a little bit. Went to SS & church. Dr. John McGraw is our new superintendent of SS starting today. Fred Rogers preached. Went to snowing at 3:00 and melting. Snowed all evening and night. Some sticking, not much tho. Went up to Doc Holdren’s awhile in afternoon. Went to hear Dr. Pickett at 7:30 at church. Josie Wiley died at 10:17 this morning.

23. Thursday. A very nice morning. We went over to see Aunt Rose & folks in Virginia and it started snowing soon as we got there and continued all day. We got home at 6:00 and we had a nice snow. Got 4 bu. Apples.

7. Thursday. Still plenty of snow. Started sleeting and snowing and a real bad night. Heard Rev. RB Nelson preach at 7:30.
8. Friday. Boy a bad morning. Snowing & ice under it.
9. Sat. Still lots of snow. Mother & I went to Princeton to have our eyes checked at 3:10. Got home at 7:00.
10. Sunday. A very nice morning. Cold as all get out tho. Went to SS & church. Hook Mays joined the church this morning and was baptized at night services.
11. Monday. Started snowing at 5:30 this morning and has not quit at this writing 1:00. 4 or 5 inches of snow at 7:00. There is 15 to 20 inches of snow and wind is raising and seems to be one of the worse nights that we have ever had.
12. Tuesday. Up early and snowing. Wind high all night and drifts everywhere. All traffic stopped. Roads blocked all over town and state of West Va. No buses, no school in county and college is stopped. Dr. Vermillion failed to get to the office today. I & dad came over town. Took us 35 minutes to make it. Stayed all night with Neta. Quincy stayed ay Girl’s Hall in kitchen.
13. Wednesday. Still snowing. Temp 14 above. Roads and streets blocked everywhere. A few cars were pulled and dragged through the streets just for fun. Of course they couldn’t get anywhere. I went home tonight. Quinzetta still down at her school and couldn’t get home. No school in county till Monday announced at 3:30 today.
14. Friday. Snowing some all night and all day today. Road force is trying to open road from Princeton down to Athens. No mail since Monday. Mail came in about 4:00 today.
15. Saturday. Snowed most all day. I went to Princeton in afternoon for my new glasses. Roads very bad to travel over. We could not go to McComas this week at all. Quinzetta got home this morning from the Bird School. Mr. Eddins died this morning in Ben Bird’s property. Only been here 2 weeks.
16. Thursday - A mix-up in days. We don’t know.
17. Sunday. Clear & nice. Melting some today. Went to SS & church. Dr. Kelly’s last sermon. Haven’t had my car out since Sunday night. Snow drifts too deep.
18.Monday. Snowing today, turning to rain in late afternoon. I went with Dr. Vermillion on trip to Neely’s Knob. Walked 1 mile - carried his bag for him. It just poured snow on us both ways. Went to Jr. Phillips to see his wife.
19. Tuesday. Temp 14 this morning. Roads slick as glass with ice. We did not go to McComas. Dr. & family went to Bluefield shopping. I stayed home. At noon I went to Princeton on bus to get my glasses adjusted and shopped a little. Dr. Lillys only went to Princeton and back home. Snowing all afternoon hard and getting colder all the time.
20. Wednesday. Temp 14 this morning. Cloudy. Thomas Oxley wounded in Germany. Carl Eskew’s boy missing…Messages today. Dad Holdren died in Hinton Hospital today.
21. Thursday. We started to McComas. Got on Springs Road, slipped and turned crossways into bank. We shoveled snow, got out, turned around and came home. We went over to Hobart’s to see Dad Holdren - Dad & I after supper. Snowing hard at dark and on us over and back.
22. Friday. Slick. Oh Boy. Dr. Lilly took little Doc to have his tonsils out this morning. I went with the Vermillions to Princeton this morning shopping. Got home at 12:30. Dad Holdren buried at Elgood today by way of Goodwin’s Chapel. Roads not open by Graham’s Chapel to Elgood.
23. Saturday. Cloudy all day. A big frost this morning. Thawing a lot today. Dr. Lilly & Mr. Bibbee went to McComas today. I stayed home.
24. Sunday. We had to walk to town. Quincy came and got Mother & Dad. Roads sheet of ice. He took them home. I walked. Dr. Lilly sick in bed. I went down there after Sunday School & home.
25. Monday. Christmas Day. Very nice day. I came over to town for mail and up to Mrs. Mastin’s a few minutes.
26. Tuesday. Roads slick. Went to McComas first time for several days. Went up to Wells to see Hensleys awhile. Got my car out for the first time since 11th of month.
27. Wed. Sleeting & snowing today. Really a bad day.
28. Thursday. Went to McComas. Roads clear. Wind came up during the night and cleared the road off dry. Quincy’s & QD”s came out for a while after supper.
29. Friday. Snowing again today and sleeting. A real bad day.
30. Saturday. Roads really slick this morning. A big fog came up in afternoon and lasted to night. Rain too late in night.
31. Sunday. Raining this morning. We could not get car to start. Walked to SS & church. I came over town in afternoon & wrote deed for Aunt Bess Burch and home at 4:30. The last of 1944 - not been too bad a year.
