Golden Gate bridge opened. Big unionization began with UAW United Auto Workers Union. Hindenburg exploded. Amelia Earhart disappeared.
January
1. Cloudy but the biggest frost. Temp 24 and cold all day. We worked and unstopped our drain pipe in the Laboratory. Daddy was out to a big dinner today, rather tonight.
2. Raining all day. Dean took me home during rain at 5:20.
3. A very nice day. Dad & I went to SS & church. Dean came and we went for a ride and back at 3:00. He left at 5:00.
4. A very nice day. Dad’s birthday. Chippy came to stay a while with us while Mama is puny. She got here at 5:30.
5. Raining some. No news much of interest. Men & truck came from Kermit WV for Dan Maupin’s equipment and moved it out and away from Dr. Trevor. Andy came at 9 today. He & Dr. Lilly went to McComas & looked things over and Dr. Lilly bought a new outfit from Andy for his new office at McComas.
6. Very nice day. Cold and raining late in afternoon. Raymond & men came down about 8 from Virginia Hardware Co. to bring lock & see icebox for an excuse –ha.
7. Raining early this morn and foggy as can be. Put lock back on Mrs. Eskew’s house. Cleared off and was a very nice day. Basketball- Concord vs. Morris-Harvey. Concord won tonight. Joe Vachon gave me a football & basketball ticket today.
8. Came to town after supper and had my hair set.
9. A very nice day. Someone stole last night Claudius Bowling’s meat out of her smoke house. Ferguson came down and got Chippy and they went for a ride. Dad & I run over town after supper for groceries and right back.
10. Up and looked like a very nice day is ahead. Dad, Chippy & I went to SS & church. Dean came over at 15 to 1 and we left about 2 for McComas and it rained all the way on us. We went by Matoaka and back by Montcalm. Looks good to me for a Dental office there. Chippy went home in afternoon. Got back about 9:00.
11. Raining today. Mrs. Bob Vermillion died last night. Charles Mattson was found today by a boy hunting. We all went to gym to see Joe Vachon’s team romp over Bramwell. Good game and large crowd there.
12. Raining yet today. Aunt May Oxley died down in the Jenning’s house. Mrs. Bob Vermillion was buried today. Dr. Lilly went to funeral.
13. Rained during night. Aunt May Oxley was buried this afternoon. Roads to Lerona are bad. Can’t get over there hardly.
14. Raining.
15. A very nice day. I believe I am taking the mumps. Dean called and we went to see Lynchburg & Concord play basketball. Lynchburg won 50 to 48.
16. Up and I sure do have the mumps. Sun shined some today. Boy I feel tough.
17. Rained the hardest I ever saw about the time Dad started to Sunday School. A bad day. My mumps are about to get me down. Boy my face is a sight to see.

20. Raining. Matoaka vs. Athens High. Athens won. Chippy went. Ferguson came for her.
21. I am still in bed with my mumps. Mary Jane Hight and Elizabeth Thornton have them also. Dr. Vermillion was out to see me.

23. Raining today. I set up some today.
24. Rained some this morning. Mama, Quincy & QD went to Hinton. Mama’s day to go. Dean came over bout 1 and stayed to near five. Mama & folks got back at 2:30. Chippy & Ferguson went down to Elgood after Mama came in.
25. Cleared off up in morning. Dr. Vermillion came out to top of Broadway for me. Too bad to get down in home. I came for the day about 11:30 and was the office in a mess-mud everywhere. Chippy came over and cleaned it up for me. Tired out by 5:00.
26. Flood has done millions of dollars of damage. Worst flood in history. Raining.

28. Raining and sleet tonight. We went to gym to see Athens High lick Pineville 41-39. Boy oh boy, what a game.
29. Ice all over ground this morning. Sure bad. Rained some and ice gone.
30. No rain today. We all went to Roosevelt Ball at gym. Dean went with us and all had a nice time seems like. Chippy went home till Monday.
31. Raining this morning again. Dad & I went to SS and church. Dean came over at 1 and left at 5. Jessie has the mumps this morning. Not 1 dab of snow for January that anyone saw.
February
1. Fine February is here and no rain. Temp cold.
2. Temp 10 this morning above. Groundhog sure saw himself if he came out. Everybody else did. Dad & I went out to see Jessie a while & on to gym to see National Business College beat Concord 43-44. 5 extra minutes to play. Boy, what a game.
3. Temp 9 this morn. Sun out bright. Frosty also. Flooded area is better. Water dropping fast except Cairo. Going to see Athens play McComas tonight, Athens won.
4. Cloudy and at 12:45 started snowing and did it snow and melt most of the day. By night it was sticking in places. Dr. Lilly was over at McComas all day running partition & putting down linoleum. I took telegram. His equipment was shipped yesterday.
5. A very nice snow on this morning. Dad & I went down to see Alderson-Broadus play Concord. We won by 6 points. We saw the tri delta fraternity burn their emblem after game was over and torch parade. Sure was pretty. Dean was there but not with me.
6. Snow yet this morning. We all went to gym to see Mullens High beat Athens High by 2 points. First defeat in 26 straight games. Dean was there but not with me.
7. Raining this morning. Dad & I had to walk to SS & church. Had a church full today. 3 sororities & 3 fraternities present. Dean came about 1:15 and left about 5- not later. Daddy sick all afternoon and night. Chippy went home today. Her & Posey’s birthday- 21 today.
8. Sun out and a dandy day. Temp 70 most of day. Dr. Vermillion was out to see Daddy today. QD, Quinzetta & I swept the school.
9. Rained during night. Hardest I ever heard I believe. Could not get my car out. QD & Jessie came for me and we went to gym to see Potomac State lick Concord 64-41. Concord could not have beat Athens High. Dean was there but not with me.
10. Colder and froze ground some during night. I went to the top of the hill at 3:00 for Daddy. He came over to school building a while and we swept for him. He is weak & nervous. Chippy, Louise & I went to gym to see Athens High lick Elkhorn by 15 points. Snowing hard as it could when we came home.
11. Near zero this morning. 4 on Jenning’s building above other places 8 & 10 above. I brought Daddy over at 6 this morning & stayed with him to 8 nearly. Dr. Lilly got card. His equipment arrived yesterday at McComas.
12. Snowed a little bit during the night.
13. A fine day. Snow nearly all gone. Uncle Ross Wiley’s sister, Mrs. Bird Carter, died yesterday morning of pneumonia. We went to see Athens High play Northfork Hi beat them good. Dean went with us. Raining soon after we came in from games.
14. Up snowed some during the night. Clear and sun out. We went to SS & left for Hinton at 10:45. QD drove for me. Mama doing fine so Doc says. We came back and stopped to see Aunt Bess a while and on in home by 4:30. Dogs of Webbs killed one of our ducks today. Wind high. Chippy went home. Dean came over for a while after supper. Did not expect him in the least.
15. Cold this morning. Snowed awhile so pretty & nice. Dr. Lilly gone to McComas. Andy is there to install his equipment for him. Ray White, Uncle Bob’s boy, died yesterday of pneumonia. We all went to the gym to Concord vs. Emory & Henry. We won 1 and lost one to them. Dean said run up for him and we did but he was not at store so we went on without him. Boy I bet he is mad at me because on to game tho.
16. Snowing when I got up this morning and kept it up all day. Don’t believe it stopped only fine snow didn’t show up much. Andy was here all morning and everything is lined up but the chair. It is in Bluefield and will be installed tomorrow morning by Andy. Cold as the dickens at 5:30.
17. Snowing and a lot on the ground. Drifted a lot up the alley. I wore my Hi-top boots over this morning and carried them back. Dr. Lilly actually got his chair in & installed today. He was there till noon and went back for awhile at 5:00. Melted all day- sun bright.
18. Snowing this morning and on till noon. Melting fast as it hits the ground.
19. Snow still in patches. A dandy thing tho. No news much.
20. A very nice day. Rained some today. Mullens High beat Athens High at Mullens tonight. 5 points. We sure did work today till 5:50. Boy was I tired. Went to bed early. Can’t get the car out - road so bad. Daddy filled the ruts back in today.
21. Raining this morning. I went to SS & church. Quincy & kids were out for dinner. Dean came over about 1- stayed till 5:00. Chippy & Ferguson went to Elgood at 1:30. Came in about 11:30 tonight. How the wind did blow & rain about 4:30 and on to bedtime.
22. Cold. Boy 20 at 8 this morning. Wind so high all day. Dr. Lilly went to Bluefield to county Dental meeting. He went out as President. Dr. Lavender was raised president of the society. Dean & I went to the show. Title- Banjo on My Knee. Sure was a good picture from start to finish. Home at 9:25. Cold. Elkhorn High beat Athens Hi 34-25. We have lost 3 games this year to them.
23. A very nice morning. Dr. Lilly left at 8:15 for McComas to open up his office for the first day to do work. Snowing most all day. Melting tho as it falls. Lots of flu all around everywhere.
24. One of the prettiest snows I ever seen this morning. Temp 20. Snow sticking to trees. A beautiful sight to see. I wore my high top boots again. Snowed some most of day. Lots of flu everywhere.
25. Snowed during night and at it this morning. Snowing so pretty. Dr. Lilly gone back to McComas again today. Pineville High School beat Athens High 57-32. 3 straight losses.
26. Coldest day for this winter. Temp 8 and wind high. Snowed some today. Dad & I walked and went to gym to see New River State beat Concord -38. Cold but no wind. Can’t get my car out.
27. Snowed some today. Cold this morning. Tried to get my car out this morn but could not get it up halfway Caldwell Alley and had to take it back & put in the garage. We are planning to go to the last ballgame of the season. Spanishburg High Athens High tonight. I went by myself. Chippy & Myrtle Oxley went on early. Dean came back up with us. Snowing the prettiest as I went and came from the game.
28. Up and the biggest snow of the season. Some 8 inches or more and still pouring down. Dad & I went to SS & stayed for church. I wore my high top boots and did they come in nice. After dinner Chippy went home and I went out to Quincy’s and spent the afternoon. Dean did not come over- afraid to get in the snow.
March
1. A fine day- melted a lot today. Dr. Lilly went to Princeton today to settle and turn over to Jim Short the Short Estate. Gone all morning. Worked hard all afternoon. Joe McConnell was found dead in his home in Princeton this morning. Heart failure was “decision” coroner giving.
2. Clear and nice this morning. Dr. Lilly gone to McComas today. I went to see Dave Vachon awhile. Concord licked Bluefield too-bad- tonight. Boy,Mullie couldn’t take it. The largest crowd for many a year present. Score 52-43. Boy a good game. Dean did not go with me. I won on it.
3. Ground froze and sun up and melted snow so fast today. Dr. Vermillion purchased himself a new Chevrolet Coupe today -is plenty good looking believe me.
4. A fine day. Sun up and real warm. All of the snow will go today. High School Basketball Tournament will start tonight at 7. All 8 teams playing 4 games. Athens plays Oakvale. Dr. Lilly at McComas today. We all went to gym. Raining as we went & came from games.
5. A fine day. High School Basketball Tournament is on and we have 2 games tonight, first game Princeton beat McComas. Second game- Athens beat Bluefield Beavers 38-34. The gym was packed and boy what a roar from start to finish. Best game ever played in gym. I didn’t see Dean there- everybody else was.
6. A fine day- wind higher tho. Athens High plays Princeton High tonight. Names of Joe Vachon’s team: Kenneth Claytor, Captain. Fred Parker, Jake Weeks, John McKenzie, Alvis Goode, Red Martin, Doc Oxley, & Jay Barbery. Aleen Jennings & I gave the boys 10 - 50 cent pieces for beating Bluefield last night. Claytor was ruled out of tonight’s game. Played 1 semester too many. 56-22 in favor of Princeton. Gym filled and running over.
7. A fine day. Up early and left for SS & Hinton. QD drove for me. We stopped at Aunt Bessie a while. Chippy went to Statesbury with Donzie & Mrs. Ferguson. Dean came over so he said and door was locked. Missed seeing me again today. 2 Sundays straight.
8. Raining today.
9. Snowing off and on all day today. I went to McComas for the day. Dr. office is nice and we worked most of the day. I like it fine. Found door open in Burch house and was it full of mud Lane children threw it in.
10. A very nice day. Worked hard too. We all went to see the town men play the college faculty. 490 folks there- paid at the door. Lots of fun. Town men beat. Bill Bauguess jumped center for the men.
11. Snowed a little bit early- a fine day. Dr. Lilly gone to McComas and I cleaned up everywhere. Saw Lane kids at school and stopped and seen Mrs. Lane & Mrs. Eskew and they agreed to clean up the Burch house where the kids messed it up. Boy was I mad.
12. Snowing a little bit this morn. Billie Hale dead Wednesday. Dad & I fixed road up to gate. Filled all ruts and run car over and packed it down. Then we all went for a ride.
13. Raining snowed a little and continued to rain all afternoon. We went to Princeton after supper. Jim Hazelwood died last night of pneumonia. Dr. Vermillion took the Akers in hands to treat today after Dr. Fred quit Walter & Noah.
14. Raining all day. Dad & I went to SS and Rogers brought us home. Quincy’s kids came out. Dean came at 1- left at
5. Chippy & Ferguson went to Elgood. Left at 1:15. Jim Hazelwood buried at Elgood today. Revival started at our church tonight. I did not go. No one to go with me so I stayed home. Rained and sleeted when we went to bed.
15. Up and a nice snow and still snowing hard on up to noon and on all day. Wind blowing too Aunt Pop White died today. Uncle Dick’s widow. 18 at bedtime. Took Walter Akers to hospital from Elgood this morning. Roads getting slick. Melted then froze ice.
16. Snowing and blowing today all day. Snowed so pretty early this morn and as I came over. Dr. Lilly went to McComas today. A man could not turn the Maupin corner and hit Dr. V’s new car. Bent bumpers a bit. No damage done. A bad day believe me.
17. Clearing up and melted nearly all of the snow. Walter Akers died this morning at 5:00 at hospital. Noah Akers is very bad also.
18. Raining and snowing some this morning. Dr. Lilly gone to McComas today.
19. A very nice day- nothing extra. Chippy & I took Dad & Mother down to Quincy’s and we went to church.
20. A fine day. Dr. Lilly gone to McComas today. This is a real nice day. Noah Akers died last night of pneumonia at Dr. Nash’s at Elgood. Went to Princeton at 4:30 to get my hair fixed. Got a Saunders permanent, curls in back. Got home at 9:30.
21. Cloudy raining and snowed a little. Cloudy all day & damp. We went to SS & stayed for church. Dean came about 1- left at 10 to 5. Ferguson came for Chippy and they left for Elgood to Noah Akers funeral at 2. We went to church at 7:30. Last of meetings for our church, 2 boys joined; Foster & Perry. Church full to brim.
22. A fine day- sun out real warm, I went to Princeton at noon- got my Easter shoes and hat. Dad & I cut down our raspberries after supper a while in the garden.
23. A fine day. Boy oh boy. Dr. Lilly gone to McComas today. We are cutting down our raspberries in garden at house.
24. Rained today a lot. Dr. Lilly went to Bluefield with Dr. Ben Caldwell and was gone all afternoon.
25. A very nice day. Rained and hailed about 10:00. Then everything looks like dust in the air. It was thick- couldn’t even see Bent Mountain. Schools turned out for Easter today. Claudie Boling is very sick. Lyn Dove went to the county jail today - drunk. Helen Scott - can’t tell. Just want a reminder when it happened.
26. Snowing today and most all day.
27. A fine day. Came over town after supper a while. Chippy went home for Easter.
28. Easter Sunday. Snowing & ground covered when we got up and still pouring down. We went to SS & church. Dean was at home when I got in from church. He took dinner with us. Also Quincy’s kids. He left at 5:15. Mother, Dad & I went to church at Methodist. Not many there, such a few, Patty is the preacher.
29. Cold this morning. Sun melted all snow. Chippy & I went to church.
30. A fine morning. Geo Thompson came to plow oats land.
31. Another fine day. March came in pretty & went out pretty. Geo finished plowing field & garden today.
April
1. A dandy day. Boy but do I want to get out. Dr. Lilly at McComas today. We burnt up all of the trash in the garden.
2. Another nice day. Tom Hazelwood’s baby died last night. Sterling Bridges died also this morn early. Left wife and 11 kids.
3. A large day. Sun out and kindly chilly but nice. No rain all week. Dr. Lilly at McComas. We came over town a while after supper and went home about 9.
4. A very nice morning. Up and left for SS & left at 10:20 for Hinton. Went thru the country and road was fine except for a few places. Made trip down in 1 hour,5 min. Ate dinner with Uncle Joe and left and came to Speedway to Sterling Bridges’ funeral. A large crowd there. Raining while at Speedway. Mother & I went to church at Methodist. Patty still preaching.
5. Raining this morning. No news.
6. A fine day. Wind hi. Chippy & Ferguson went to show. Seen 9 year old bride and 22 year old husband. Had a flat tire today. Wire or tack in casing. Brought it over after supper to get it fixed. Dad & I got 1 bu apples in office and took home.
7. A dandy day. Wind still blowing. Andy Hash came today. Offered T.R. a job in Wheeling. He is to go next week.
8. Rained some today. Mr. Bud Cheatwood is just alive.
9. Rained & snowed some today. X-rayed all of Neta’s teeth today- 3 abscessed.
10. Ground covered this morning with snow and we had snow squalls off and on all day. Claudie Bowling went to sleep about noon today and dies at 3:- We heard a noise in the bank downstairs but could not find anything. Came over town after supper awhile and went down to see Neta a minute. Took out two abscessed teeth.
11. Snow ground covered and snowed squalls all day. Went to SS & church. Dean came about 1:15- Left at 5. Chippy went home at 12:00. Went down to see Claudie after supper and down to see Neta & to church, Sis & I. Revival closed at Methodist tonight. Mr. Bud Cheatwood died at 5 this morning.
12. A fine day. Wind high tho. Went to Claudie Bowling’s funeral & burial at Baptist church at 11. A large crowd there. Flowers so pretty. Came over town, Chippy and I after supper awhile. Dr. Lilly went to Mullens with Fred Cooper on business this afternoon.
13. Cloudy & colder. Chippy and I went to Elgood to Mr. Cheatwood’s funeral & burial. A large crowd there. Dr. Lilly at McComas. Raining by night.
14. Rained a little today off & on. Worked hard all day. Dr. Vermillion left early this morning with Bob for Roanoke to clinic.
15. Rained during the night. Brought my car out and went to Bluefield with Scott & Chippy to laboratory to have some clasps put on a plate. We had a lot of fun. Dr. Vermillion came in from Roanoke about noon.
16. A very nice day. Worked hard all day. Came over town after supper awhile. I had to work in office awhile.
17. A fine day. Daddy had Estil Oxley sow his oats today. We came over town after supper awhile. Loafed till about 9.
18. A hot day. Temp in afternoon was 84 on our front porch. Dean came about 15 to 1 and left at 2:45. Quincy’s kids were out for dinner. Chippy left about 1. Glen Christensen, J.C., Gladys & 1 Pennington girls came over awhile about 3:30 and left at 4:20. After supper Dean came back for a while. Why?
19. A fine day so nice and warm. Peaches, pears, green gages and most all killed. Dean and I went to show in Princeton. Rainbow on the river. Bobby Breen and was it good. Second best I ever saw.
20. Another fine day. Walter Wright and another gent came down to fix refrigerator today. Neta went down to see Dr. Meador today. Went out to Quincy’s after supper.
21. Cloudy today. Quincy making a pool in his yard. A real wind & rain storm about dark. Cleaned our cellar out good.
22. A fine day. Wind high. Raymond & refrigerator man fixed ice box today. It is fine. Went out to Quincy’s awhile after supper. Walked home and went down road and up.
23. A dandy day. Took Mr. Whittaker to Huntington Hospital yesterday (Insanity) Bluefield College burned up today. Came over town after supper. All of us and got seed potatoes from Dr. Lilly. Loafed awhile. A dance at the high school. Ruth Mastin Bailey has a baby boy in Memorial Hospital.
24. Raining today. Daddy put out our potatoes. Old Timer says this is the day. Dad took a catch in his back. Mother got Jessie to finish with her to help a little. Raining late in afternoon. Went down to Quincy’s a while after supper. Chippy went home for the night.
25. Raining this morning so bad I could not get my car out. QD came to top of hill and got us for SS. Quincy brought us back to the top of the hill. Dad’s back so bad he had to take dope pills before he could stir around any. Dean came about 1:30. Brought his car to the house. Then here came Walter Wright and 2 men to work on refrigerator and I was here all afternoon. Dean left about 5:30. Couldn’t leave until after they left. Stayed home all evening.
26. Rained a lot during night. A big frost. I came over with Dad at 6:00 to build fire and do up everything.
27. Snowed during the night. Hailed and rained a sight. Chippy & I came over town after supper awhile.
28. A very good morning. I cleaned windows at office today. We sheared Ginger tonight and was he pretty. Raining about 7:30.
29. Rained, just poured all night. Floods are starting again in Ohio & Pittsburg.

May
1. A fine day. Banker’s Association of 5 counties met at Concord for supper & a program in gym. We went to Princeton after supper awhile, stopped at the Medicine Show.
2. A beautiful day. We went to SS & church. Mother went also. Chippy got dinner. Dean came about 1:15 and brought me one of his pictures and is it a grand picture. Boy it is good of him. We left at 2 for a drive. Went to Pembroke Va and back and I never seen the scenery so pretty. Red buds are beautiful and a sight to see. Uncle Joe, Margaret, Roy, Margaret Billings & Mrs. stopped awhile. Been over to Mr. “Sentz”. JE “Sentz” died last night. Uncle Joe spent the night with us. Dean came over after supper and stayed a while.
3. A fine day. Mrs. Whittaker is moving back in my house on the hill- Burch property. Had Ed Wirtz to plaster the flu where it was bad. Today Mama and I went to Hinton with Quincys. Dr. Meador told Mother to take the stone out in their lot and put it under our house today. Chip & Quinzetta & Jessie and I went to the carnival in Princeton. A large crowd there and it was not all up.
4. Another good day. Biggest apple blossoms I ever saw I believe. If they don’t get killed everybody ought to have plenty. Went up to see Ruth Mastin Bailey & baby and Maxine Reed at Memorial hospital and stopped at carnival awhile. Raining as we came home. A big crowd there.
5. Raining today a lot in afternoon. Dean came over and we went to the carnival. Rained hard most of the time. Chip & Ferguson went too.
6. A very nice day. Went to the show after supper. Jane Withers in Pepper with Slim Summervilles. Whittakers came in Burch house to spend the night.
7. No news. Cold tho.
8. A very nice day. We went to the carnival. Dean went with us. Got home at 12:30.
9. A fine day. Went to SS& church. Mother’s Day. SS gave carnations to each Mother present for church. Dean came over and we went for a ride thru Montcalm, Pinnacle Rock, Simmons, Pocahontas Va, Bluefield Va, and Bluefield & home. Had a nice drive. Tired when we got home. Went out to Quincys after supper and no one at home. Went for a drive and home and to bed early.
10. A fine day. Cool tho. A disturbance in Bank of Athens. Fred & Coffee set down to quit because of a cut in salary. We went up and mowed cemetery and Chippy & I left at 8:30 for the show One In A Million. Not too good. QD & Jessie went with us.

14. A clear day. Cool tho. We all went to a circus in Princeton after supper. Dan Rice Circus. Patton came home with us.
15. A fine day. After supper we came over town and down to see Aunt Lura awhile. She has appendicitis in bed.
16. A fine day. We went to SS & church. Dean came over about 1:15. We went for a ride down by Graham’s Chapel around mountain to Fred Ball’s and home. Maxine & I went up to see Jackie Cheatwood after supper awhile and home and to bed early.
17. A fine day. Chippy & I left for Bluefield to attend the West Virginia State Dental meeting at the West Virginia Hotel. A big afternoon. Got home at 5:10. We all went to see Asher & Little Jimmy & Buddy Boy at Royal Theater. Had a lot of fun.
18. A fine day. Dr. Lilly at Bluefield to State Dental Meeting.
19. A fine day. Cold tho. Put second coat of paint on porch. My porch furniture came today from Bluefield. No news much. Put out “azalemums” tonight.
20. A big frost this morning. Cold too.
21. A very nice day. Came over town after supper and loafed awhile. Junior-Senior Banquet of the high school came off tonight. QD attended and is a senior in high school.
22. A fine day up to late in the afternoon and up came a wind storm. Only loafed a short while. Took Aunt Lura Burch to hospital with ruptured appendix. Real sick. We went to Princeton after supper awhile. Shopping got a new flowered dress at Fashion Shop.

1. A fine day. We went to the reunion at Elgood. Had a big time. Aunt Alice & MaryLee & Reuben went with us and we took them to the 5:20 train. Dean came over and we went for a ride in Bob’s big car and home. He told me that he had sold his home to Hattie & “Brown”.

1. A fine day. Washed a few pieces and in afternoon Mama & I went to Princeton and shopped for Xmas and now ours is nearly done.
2. Up and a nice day. Big snow. What a surprise to everyone. 4 inches or maybe 6. After dinner I went down home & Mama & I wrapped our packages and have them ready to mail and send out.
3. Warmer some and melted a little. Went over to the office and found key to Sunday School Bank and up to Mastin’s awhile & home. Uncle Levi Martin died this morning 91 years old. Pneumonia.
4. Rained some. Sun out a little. Dad oiled school building & then he and I went to Princeton and he got himself a new suit-Hyde Park. Got back at 15 to 6. Frank came down and stayed the night with us.
5. Snow on top of snow. Raining and snowing as we went to SS & church. Dean took Frank home at 8:00. Stayed home rest of day. Mama and Dad & I went to Uncle Levi Martin’s funeral at Methodist Ch then down to Speedway over new road. Started snowing about 3:30 and on to this writing at 7:30. It is pouring down. May be a big snow by morning.

30. A fine day. Tom & Gert left at 2:30. Ironed my washing. Jack Cheatwood, Kat & Betty came over and stayed till 4:30. Had a big visit. I went down home after supper a while.
31. A very nice day for the last day of the year. Alma and Aileen came over about 4:45 & I was gone down home.
