Verlie's Diary

Prohibition laws repealed. Western dust storms devastation from drought and high winds. Alcatraz became a federal penitentiary. Verlie's diary for this year has been lost.

The diaries for 1932-35, 1938-39, 1941, 1943, 1947-48, 1955, and 1958-60 have been lost. Moreover, only the month of January exists for 1963. Contributor Kay White Monohan explained that the original diaries were stored in an attic following Verlie's death in 1966 and were damaged by water. When discovered decades later those unreadable may have been discarded.
